Social Equity & Inclusion Committee

About

The committee works directly with policymakers to educate the public, assist applicants in the application process, and help with workforce development in affected communities. Social equity deals with justice and fairness within social policy. The legal cannabis industry and its regulators are embracing the idea that the industry itself is the best place for redress of past harms through the creation of social equity programs. These programs attempt to ensure that people of color, and those with marijuana offenses prior to legalization, be afforded an opportunity to participate. Social equity laws seek to ensure that people from communities disproportionately harmed by marijuana prohibition and discriminatory law enforcement are included in the new legal marijuana industry. Policymakers are working to address criticisms that outsiders are setting up legal cannabis businesses and profiting by doing the same things their less fortunate neighbors were arrested and given jail time for just a few years ago.

Our Goal

Expand social equity in the Coachella Valley cannabis industry through justice and fairness within social policy.
